MYC tour

Check out the link below for a few boats of interest at our own Milwaukee Yacht Club to include Baachant, a 78 foot wooden yacht that was built for the king of norway. It is said that in the 1930's Baachant was de commisioned and dropped down a deep well in Norway to hide it from the Nazis, who at the time were confiscating everything. Baachant was pulled up from her watery grave after WWII and restored to the condition you see her in today.Kudos to those responsible for preserving such a beautiful piece of history and also to those who continue to preserve her-she is incredible.

Phase 1A-Change of Course

After numerous communications with Robin Knox Johnson, organizer and world famous solo sailor of the Velux 5 Oceans races, it appears the 2014 Velux race will not commence as planned. Due to scheduling conflicts with other ocean racing series, it appears that the 2014 race will be cancelled. It is disappointing news indeed but much like my recent job change and subsequent relocation, maybe it was just meant to be that way. I hope for better news for the event but in the meantime, I plan to change gears and focus on all forms of sailing and racing.
This year, I have had the opportunity to race on a friends J105 in the Chicago NOOD race {7th} and the Chicago Verve race {2nd}. We had a lot of fun in both races but the Verve was much tougher showcasing 30 knot winds and 20 foot seas. It was so rough I became pretty seasick but rallied once we were downwind. Our 35 foot boat made 21 knots downwind surfing down the waves. Quite exciting! I plan on filming all future sailing events and posting them using my go pro camera. I mostly hope I do not lose the frigging thing they are not cheap!
Stay tuned and let us see how it goes--
